POLSER OVERCOMES EARLY TROUBLE, EXPLODES PAST COUNTRY PLACE 26-20
They say you have to win ugly sometimes... and Polser did that this evening.  Starting a little out of sync, Polser had difficulty with a rough and tough Country Place team.  A few fumbled rebounds and defensive errors by Polser allowed Country Place to jump out to an early lead 9-3 after the first quarter.  Things didn't get much better in the 2nd, but the defense started to tighten up.  Country Place led at Halftime 12-8.

The third quarter belonged to Polser.  The full-court press was too much for Country Place.  Polser turned up the pressure and the tempo of the game - and Country Place crumbled.  Polser exploded for 12 points while holding CP to a single goal to take the lead for good at 20-14 after 3 periods.  The teams exchanged baskets in the fourth, but Polser was in control and closed out the win in the final regular season game.  Ryan led scorers with 8 and Michael P. added 7 more.
Dillon chipped in 4 and Jack scored in his first game back from his injury.  Now it's tourney-time!!

HOT SHOOTING POLSER DOMINATES THOMPSON, ROLLING ON WITH 34-10 WIN
The offense moved the ball around, creating open shots - and the shots went in during the first game of the double-header day.  Polser came out hot, shooting 50% in the first half, building a lead that took Thompson out of the game early.  Polser led at halftime 18-3

Picking up with a full-court press in the third, the Polser defense was just too much Thompson.  Polser controlled both ends of the floor, set the tempo of the game, and effectively shut-down any threat from Thompson.  Polser pushed the lead to 26-6 after three periods.  Calling off the press, Polser coasted through the fourth to close out the victory.  Ryan lead all scorers with 12 points while Erick added 10 more.  And, Steven and Michael H. scored their first points of the season.

POLSER COMEBACK FALLS SHORT IN FIRST LEAGUE LOSS TO FURNEAUX 26-24
In the toughest test of league play so far, Polser battled Furneaux down to the wire before losing in the final seconds.
After only an hour of rest, Polser started out strong, grabbing a couple of quick rebounds and creating several great shot opportunities.  But the bounces were not going to fall in the second game.  Polser struggled through the first half, but held a slim one point lead 7-6 at halftime.

While Polser continued to struggle with poor shot selection and turnovers, Furneaux turned up the heat scoring 8 points before Polser finally responded.  It was a tired Polser team that just made too many mistakes and unforced turnovers, allowing Furneaux to build a 5 point lead at 16-11 after three quarters.  It seemed like the game would be blown open when Furneaux opened the fourth with 2 quick scores to extend the lead to 9.  But Polser played through the mistakes and hung on.  Down by 8 points with 3:38 to play, lightning finally struck as the Polser press got in gear.  Creating steals and turnovers, Polser burned Furneaux for 3 quick buckets.  When Alex sank two clutch free-throws, the score was tied at 24 with 37 seconds to play.  But one more mistake was the fatal one, as the defense failed to stop the Furneaux big man - and Polser trailed by 2 points with 20 seconds to play.  A quick Polser drive to the basket got the foul call, but this time the shots wouldn't fall and time ran out on a great comeback.  Alex scored 8 and Michael P. scored 6 in the first league loss.

POLSER SHUTS OUT DAVIS IN SECOND HALF FOR CONVINCING 34-8 VICTORY
Practice pays off.  Polser finally exploded offensively in the first quarter jumping all over Davis early.  Polser streaked to a big lead with a 11-0 run before Davis scored to close out the quarter trailing 11-2.  The second period was much closer but Polser extended the lead by a point to lead at halftime 18-8.

The second half was dominated by Polser defense.  The Polser press closed down the passing lanes, creating turnovers and breakaway baskets.  Polser also dominated the boards, limiting Davis to only one shot when they were able to bring the ball up.  It was a perfect shut-out in the second half.  Polser scored 8 points in each of the final 2 quarters to close out the win.  But the highlight of the game was the first quarter as 4 of the five starters scored.  Erick lead our scorers with 9 points and Michael P. added 8.  Ryan recovered from his cough to add 6 and Alex scored 5.

[Saturday / 01.19.02 - GAME 2]
POLSER JUMPS ON SHEFFIELD EARLY & HANGS ON 25-16 TO SWEEP DOUBLE-HEADER
It was a stressful - but successful finish in the second game of our first double-header weekend.  With 2 hours between games to rest, a tired Polser team struggled a bit to stay in the game in the second half.  But Polser continued to play hard through the mental mistakes and turnovers in the second half to close out with a win in the second game of the day.

It was another offensive blast in the first as Alex ripped off 11 straight points to lead Polser to a 13-0 lead after the first.  The second quarter was pretty sloppy as each team could only score 1 basket and Polser lead 15-2 at halfime.  Sheffield jumped right back into the game with 9 points in the third quarter as Polser struggled with tired shots and only managed to add 4 points. Polser lead 19-11 after 3.  In the fourth, Sheffield missed several key shots and free-throws which could have closed the gap, but Polser scored 6 in the fourth on steals and breakaways to break Sheffield's momentum.  Alex led all scorers with those 11 first quarter points and Michael P. added 6 including 2 key free-thows in the fourth.

POLSER BLOWS PAST ROSEMEADE 2 IN SECOND HALF TO WIN EASILY 33-8
After another slow 1st quarter, Polser opened up a seven point spread to lead at halftime 9-2.  Only the poor shooting percentage kept the game close, as Polser dominated rebounds and shots-on-goal to improve to 2-0 in league play.

But once again, Polser's full-court pressure was too much to handle in the second half.  Rosemeade 2 turned the ball over and Polser took advantage.  Polser broke open the game with a 14-2 run to extend the lead to 23-4 after three quarters.  Coach Terry called off the press in the fourth quarter, but Polser scored another 10 points to close out the win.  Game highlights included 13 points from Alex, and 4 baskets in a row from Reggie for his best game this season.  Great game!!

POLSER ROLLS IN 4TH QUARTER TO WIN LEAGUE OPENER 23-4 OVER ROSEMEADE 1
These mornings games always give Polser trouble - and it was another slow start.  But, Polser scored first and never trailed in this game - exploding in the second half to roll past Rosemeade 1 in the first league game for both teams.

Again, poor shooting kept the game close as Polser dominated the boards with 32 rebounds.  In fact, Polser put up a total of 25 shots in the first half - but only managed to score 4 times to lead at halftime 8-4.  After a ragged 3rd quarter, the Polser press and defense took over. Polser took control with steals and SCORES to blow the game open with a 15-0 run through the second half.  That's right - Polser shut-out Rosemeade 1 the entire second half.  It wasn't pretty, but it was a win in the books before the Christmas Holiday break!  A 1-0 start adds to our Christmas Cheer!  HAPPY HOLIDAYS!

RAINWATER HOLDS OFF POLSER CHARGE, TAKES FINAL PRACTICE GAME 34-26
Polser came ready to play - and the game was on.  Playing tough and aggressive on defense and on the boards, Polser battled through the first  quarter trailing 3-1.  Rainwater opened with a burst in the 2nd before Polser settled down on defense.  But the damage was done and Rainwater jumped out to a 17-7 lead at the half.

It wasn't quite over, as Polser continued to play hard.  Handling the press effectively, Polser created a number of great scoring opportunities.  If just half of those shots had gone down, Polser could have completed the comeback. But, after the lead to was cut to four, Rainwater responded with three quick scores to close out the third leading 26-16.  Polser rallied and charged again in the fourth, but there were just too many missed shots and unforced turnovers.  Even though Polser "won" the second half, Rainwater held on to win.  But, it was much closer than most expected, and a really great "practice" for our team as we get ready for the opening league game next week.

POLSER DOMINATES 4TH QUARTER, ROLLS TO 28-12 OPENING DAY WIN OVER KENT 1
The debut of 2001-2002 Polser Basketball was a success Saturday evening with a convincing 28-12 win in the first practice game of the season.  As expected, it was two different games with the full-court press allowed during the second half.  And it was the Polser Press that dominated the 4th quarter to seal the victory.

After giving up the opening bucket to Kent 1, Polser followed with a 3 point play and would never trail. Polser led at the end of the 1st quarter 9-6.  With lots of missed shots from both teams in the 2nd quarter, the half ended with Polser leading 11-8.

Polser initiated a trapping press in the 3rd quarter, but couldn't convert the turnovers into points.  Polser led 14-10.
But Polser dominated the 4th quarter as the press forced more turnovers and Polser exploded for 14 points. The defense only gave up a single goal and Polser pulled away.  We need more practice time to get our shooting touch back and eliminate some of the unforced turnovers, but it was a solid win and a fun start to the season.
